One of world's greatest natural wonders protected

horiz-waterfalls_v2
Great news! Today the final plan was published for the new Lalang-Garram Horizontal Falls Marine Park, protecting one of the world’s greatest natural wonders: the Kimberley’s Horizontal Falls and its surrounding reefs, mangroves, islands and ocean.
Congratulations to the WA Government and the Dambimangari Traditional Owners who will jointly manage the new marine park. And a huge THANK YOU to the thousands of you who showed your support for Horizontal Falls – making a record breaking number of submissions!
Our friends at ‘The Kimberley – Like Nowhere Else’ have pulled together this wonderful video about the extraordinary Horizontal Falls. You can watch the video here.
Thanks to the huge wave of support, the marine park includes new sanctuary zones over important places like Turtle Reef, Walcott Inlet and at the Horizontal Falls themselves, which will help protect our incredible marine life.
Today is a day to celebrate the protection of one of WA’s most iconic places, described by David Attenborough as ‘one of the greatest natural wonders of the world’. It is one more big step towards the creation of a Great Kimberley Marine Park to protect the whole Kimberley coast. We hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks again for all your support.
