One giant step for the Kimberley

More great news for the Kimberley!
Just weeks after the extraordinary Horizontal Falls was protected, the WA Government has today announced the creation of another new marine park in the Kimberley… and it’s a whopper.
The new North Kimberley Marine Park extends over 19,000km2 of the most pristine and remote waters of the Kimberley, making it by far the biggest marine park in Western Australia.
A huge THANK YOU to the thousands of you who showed your support for the North Kimberley – the heart of the world’s most pristine tropical coastline. This is a huge step towards our goal of a Great Kimberley Marine Park to rival the Great Barrier Reef.
The park contains important sanctuaries, but there is more work to be done to better protect the mangrove forests and coral reefs in the Kimberley’s massive tidal areas.
We hope you’ll take a moment to celebrate what you helped to achieve. And we look forward to continuing to work with you to ensure the Kimberley receives the world-class protection it deserves.
