Just one vote away from banning the Supertrawler

Last night the Senate was just one vote away from banning night fishing.
The Turnbull Government has failed to address the most damaging fishing practice of the Supertrawler – night fishing – which will continue to put our dolphins and seals at risk of drowning.
But thanks to more than 15,000 people taking action over the last 36 hours, Labor is now standing firm with the Australian public against the Supertrawler, joining the Greens who led the charge, and crossbench Senators Jacqui Lambie, Glenn Lazarus and Ricky Muir. THANK YOU – this is a huge step forward.
The urgency for a permanent ban on supertrawlers in Australian waters is now even greater. As the nation heads into an election year, we hope that the Turnbull Government and the other crossbenchers – Senators Xenophon, Madigan, Day, Wang and Leyonhjelm – will listen to the public and support a permanent ban.
This month alone, more than 10,000 of you have emailed the Turnbull Government to ban the Supertrawler. And another 15,000 have just contacted MPs and senators to make sure they’re feeling widespread concern.
Together we’re a powerful force and we won’t stop until the Supertrawler is banned from Australian waters. We’ll be in touch with next steps and thank you again for all your support.
