Coffs Coast Advocate: Call for science before politics in marine parks
THE NSW premier Barry O’Farrell is being urged to listen to scientists and the community ahead of any announcement about changes to sanctuary zones in marine parks.
That announcement is due to be made later this week and Greens NSW marine environment spokesperson, Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC, said it is imperative that recreational fishing is not allowed to continue in sanctuary zones.
“This week we will find out whether the Premier will put short term political deals with the Shooters and Fisher’s Party over science and the overwhelming community support for no-take sanctuary zones,” Dr Faruqi said.
