Environmental film to be screened in Maroochydore

ON the Sunshine Coast, our way of life is inexorably connected to our great blue backyard.
The sea provides us with profitable industries, an enviable lifestyle and a place for recreation.
For the makers of a new environmental documentary, the connection between the ocean and the communities who live near it was a source of inspiration.
The Sea and Me documents the extraordinary seas surrounding Australia and the inspiring people who look after it.
Danielle Ryan and James Sherwood from Bluebottle Films captured communities where marine sanctuaries were in place for up to 20 years and shares the success stories of world class conservation and recreation working hand in hand.
“In all the places featured in the film we see world class conservation and recreation successfully working hand-in-hand,” Ms Ryan said.
The film is touring the nation’s coastal communities, and will be launched in Maroochydore at a special screening on Tuesday, March 31.
Local conservation groups and businesses are standing behind the film, and will be supporting its launch.
“I jumped at the chance to support a local film screening about our oceans’ caretakers. Here on the Sunshine Coast almost everyone has a story to tell about what the marine environment means to them and why they care about its future,” Surfrider Sunshine Coast president Craig MacIntyre said.
Sunreef Scuba Diving Mooloolaba owner Philip Hart will supporting the film.
“Our business relies upon healthy oceans. I’m happy to throw my support behind a film that tells the stories of ordinary Australians who are working in different ways to protect their local marine environment,” he said.
