TRUE Blue country singer John Williamson has backed Bunbury and South West businesses in calling for marine sanctuaries off our coast.
Mr Williamson was in the South West for the Variety Car Bash this week and paid a visit to the Dolphin Discovery Centre.
“Our marine life and coastal attractions is what brings people from overseas and we need to preserve this, Mr Williamson said.
A national network of marine sanctuaries was created in 2012, but the Abbott Government set the protective zoning aside in 2013 and ordered a review.
Two hundred businesses have joined forces to call for an end to delays in getting the parks underway.
Dolphin Discovery Centre general manager David Kerr said many visitors were drawn to the region because of its reputation for unspoilt nature experiences.
“People travel great distances and an expansion of sanctuary areas will enhance that reputation.”
